Our Conservation Programs

Every program we run is designed to create lasting, measurable impact for gorillas, their habitats, and the communities who share their home.

What We Do

Six Programs. One Mission.

Our work spans habitat protection, community engagement, scientific research, anti-poaching, rescue operations, and policy advocacy – all working together to create a comprehensive shield for gorilla populations. Mountain Gorilla Refuge operates through 10 core program areas, each designed to address critical threats facing gorillas.

Gorilla Protection and Conservation

Gorilla Protection & Conservation

Our core program focuses on direct protection of gorilla populations through daily monitoring, population censuses, and habitat patrols. We work with park authorities and local communities to ensure gorillas are safe from poaching and human disturbance.

Key Activities

  • Daily gorilla monitoring
  • Population censuses
  • Habitat patrols
  • Threat assessment
